The Laguna Room supports the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide
The team at TLR recognizes that teen suicides are growing at an alarming rate. According to the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide, suicide rates are the second leading cause of death for America’s youth. While men complete suicide more frequently than woman, the attempt rate for women is four times higher than the attempt rate for men. We feel females in particular endure relentless pressure about body image with unrealistic expectations of what the media portrays that the “perfect” woman should look like. It’s hard to ignore the correlation between self-esteem and body image –with the introduction of social media, it has become an all-encompassing force with seemingly no escape. Sometimes the choice of self-destructive behavior is the avenue of escape for teens who feel trapped in lives and bodies that just don’t measure up.
We at TLR believe in real women with real bodies. We believe in loving who you are and being proud to be in your own skin. Our models are not photoshopped. They are real women, with real bodies, real flaws, and real personalities. TLR and SPTS are here to let you know you are not alone; we’re here to let you know it does get better; we’re here to let you know there are people who can help you stay steady until the storms pass.
Starting January 1 until March 31, TLR will donate 5% of its net profits to the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide charity. Our donation will help support and develop their prevention programs as well as contribute to their ongoing education and outreach to schools and communities.
